So, I'm here now. In La Jolla. Well, San Diego for anyone who asks, who isn't from here. About 5-7 minutes from the sand. Close to school, planning on biking once I buy a bicycle. Probably once the quarter starts in late September. Why am I here? Because of prep sessions!!!! Yeah!!!!!
My room is pretty much settled into. Bought a bed. Spent a bit more than anticipated, but I sleep like a baby. An extra $0.13 per day ($100 over two years) is mighty comfortable.
Had great fun buying a desk from Ikea with my friends Matt & Leann. Really good seeing people. When asked my favorite color for my bedspread, my reply was "cheap." Same for what color desk. Luckily everything looks half-way decent.
Bought some pots 'n pans, setup my toaster oven that I bought 5 years ago @ uni (wow!), populating the fridge, etc. Roomates should move down sometime soon. Been over to the campus for the things I've needed to do so far. Nice people in my program. Classes start in earnest next Monday. I looked at the reader they gave me...sigh. Not looking forward to either finance OR accounting, but otherwise my classes look kick ass.
My birthday is Friday. It happens, we move on. Never a big fan. Not depressed in the slightest, but even as a child, I didn't care for birthday parties and whatnot. Not my thing. Likely drive up to L.A. on Saturday to see the family, fix my brother's computer, and yeah, that's it. Still in the air. Getting into study mode is hard. Imagine if I hadn't taken a couple internet classes and studied Japanese independently. Up the creek. But I *do* have a paddle. For boats. To row with...
Missing my friends from Japan. Missing going about in the town. Missing hitting Tokyo regularly. Even missing my kids at school. Everyone should be so lucky as to spend their days surrounded by kids with young, inquisitive mind. Or at minimum, smiling faces.
But I'm happy here so far. No complaints really. Was able to touch base with a good friend from high school. Known her for TEN years. That's random. Means I'm young, but gettin older. I will be 25, going on 26 when I graduate (crosses fingers). Not old or nothing. Right on track if I go by my 13 year's old prediction about my life. Though my PhD in rocket science has morhped into a desire to fix stuff more down to earth. Regardless, stuff is going as stuff goes. |

Stolen from Wikipedia:
How many light bulbs does it take to change a UC student? Or something like that. It depends on which UC.
University of California, Berkeley -Seventy-six. One to change the lightbulb, fifty to protest the lightbulb's right to not change, and twenty-five to hold a counter- protest. University of California, Davis -None. Davis doesn't have electricity. University of California, Irvine -One. Someone to hire the undocumented worker mowing the lawn to do it for them. UCLA -One. She holds the bulb and the world revolves around her! University of California, Merced -None. Classes are held by the vernal pools. University of California, Riverside -None. Riverside looks better in the dark. University of California, San Diego -Two. One to mix the margaritas and one to call the electrician. University of California, San Francisco -Two. One to change the lightbulb and one to crack under the pressure. University of California, Santa Cruz -Six. One to remove the old light bulb, one to fashion it into a bong, one to hold the new bulb into the socket, and three to pass the newly created bulb-bong around until the room spins. University of California, Santa Barbara -Only one, but they get six credits for it.
Finally ...
Hastings College of the Law -One. Someone to to file the product liability suit. |
